Hello! My name is Jen and I am so excited to be a part of the Wellington Veterinary Hospital team as a veterinary assistant! I was raised in Colorado, living in many different towns and cities, until finally settling down in Fort Collins in 2019. After graduating from Colorado State University in 2015, I worked in music and sports but quickly discovered that my real passion is working with animals. Outside of work, I am fueled by long books, live music, difficult puzzles, and the rare snuggle from my two cats, Charles and Maximus.

I am a strong advocate for pit bulls and animal rights. In my spare time I enjoy creating art, going to concerts, and spending time with my loved ones. If I am not socializing, you can find me in the barn with my horse, Eli, and my bunnies or snuggling on the couch with my cat and dogs.

Kristen Cavanaugh, DVM
At an early age, my neighbor sparked my love for animals when I began helping her to care for over 50 chinchillas when she started a chinchilla rescue. I grew up in a small farming community in Illinois, which allowed me to interact with farm animals and observe wildlife. Inspired by nature, I developed a strong interest in the arts and learned to paint with oils. My artistic talents developed throughout high school and I attended the University of Illinois in Chicago and graduated with a bachelor of arts with a focus in photography. While I was obtaining my bachelor’s, I also worked part-time as a veterinary assistant where I realized I had intuitive skills and a greater passion for helping animals.
I decided to follow my dream of becoming a veterinarian and attended St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada in the Caribbean in 2013. There I volunteered to provide veterinary care throughout the island with outreach programs and helped with conservation for leatherback sea turtles. My passion and interest could not be limited to a specific area of veterinary medicine in school and I was recognized for my efforts with a scholarship for large animal internal medicine and was inducted into the National Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine. I then attended the University of Minnesota for my clinical year which stimulated a strong interest in alternative care and traditional Chinese medicine. I recently moved to Colorado after practicing in Chicago to continue to be inspired by nature.
In my free time I enjoy playing the guitar, photography, painting, yoga, biking, and snuggling with my pet kitty, Momo, and doggos, Behr and Grizzly. I am very excited to be able to provide comfort and care for your beloved pets as a new member of Wellington Veterinary Hospital.
